Tower Types for Different Line Functions

The angle steel transmission tower is a lattice steel structure used to support conductors, ground wires, and related transmission line accessories. It can be designed as a tangent tower, tension tower, angle tower, terminal tower, or crossing tower. Branch towers and transposition towers can also be produced according to the line layout.

 

Project parameters may be discussed for 0.4kV, 10kV, 35kV, 110kV, 220kV, 330kV, 500kV, and 750kV line conditions. Overseas projects can be designed according to the local voltage level. The company's current main manufacturing scope focuses on transmission towers of 500kV and below, while the final voltage level, tower type, and qualification requirements are confirmed during the project review.

Line Geometry and Load Coordination

 

 

Single-circuit, double-circuit, and multi-circuit structures are available. The line angle can be designed within a range of 0–90 degrees. Crossarm arrangement is determined by the actual line direction, conductor position, and tower function.

Typical horizontal spans are 250–500 meters, while typical vertical spans are 300–600 meters. Tower selection should also consider conductor type, ground wire configuration, wind speed, ice thickness, and seismic conditions. Voltage level alone is not sufficient for selecting the final tower design.

 

Steel, Bolting, and Galvanized Protection

 

 

The main steel can be Q235B, Q355B, or Q345B. Q420B can be selected for heavier-load projects, and project-specified materials can also be used. Components are processed by cutting and laser drilling or punching in the factory.

Connections use grade 6.8 or grade 8.8 high-strength bolts. Site assembly is mainly completed with bolts, and field welding is generally not required. The angle steel transmission tower can be matched with LGJ-185, 240, 300, 400, and 500 conductors. GJ steel strand or OPGW optical ground wire can be supplied as the corresponding ground wire configuration.

The tower receives full hot-dip galvanizing. The regular zinc coating thickness is not less than 85 μm. Additional corrosion protection can be specified for coastal or heavy salt-spray environments.
